Lake, frozen Lake

A few weeks ago, Huck was lucky enough to join us on a winter trip to the cabin. The ride was cramped...four adults and two large mutts snuggled up in the cab of my dad's truck. Luckily for him, Huck was just a little too big for me to shove him to the floor of the car, so Albert got that honor and Huck staked his claim on the seat. Sorry Albert, hopefully you will forgive me someday.

Whether you are a dog or a person, the cabin is a pretty sweet place to be in the winter. Those on two legs enjoyed our drinks by the fire, while eating our weight in Heggie's pizza and playing cards into the night. For our four legged friends, winter offers the greatest cabin treat of all - coming inside! Usually furry friends are relegated to the garage, but because of the cold we took pity on them and let them lounge with us in the toasty cabin. So, lucky Huck curled his red-self in front of the blazing fire, and waited for the Heggie's crumbs to fall to the floor.

Besides indoor privileges, the other great part of winter cabin trips is the ability to walk on water. I took Huck and Albert out to the middle of the lake, wondering if they really understood how strange it was not to be swimming. I am pretty sure that, as much as I love him, Huck's brain is not quite capable of abstract thought. So while I enjoyed the view of the ice on the lake and the snow in the trees, Huck just enjoyed the run.
