dish towel duvet

huck enjoys his overnight stays with the sj clan, especially because he gets to lick up all the extra food the girls drop on their chairs during dinner. walks to the water tower and the search for bright pink tennis balls fill his days there, but of course there is always time for relaxing. and what better way to relax than snuggled under every dish towel in the house? sorry for the extra laundry, ssj, but huck sure does look comfortable.

Huck is one lucky dog.  Last night he had a visit from his Uncle Dan - it had been almost 3 years!  It was a great reunion, and a good preview of the fun they will have in South Dakota come August.  Now, on top of that excitement, Huck is having a sleepover with his favorite cousins - E and M.  He loves coming to their house - tennis balls, sprinklers on the lawn, and of course, licking up all the food that falls onto their chairs.  Pat and I have a pretty good time too, but I think it is Huck's favorite place to be.

Lake, frozen Lake

A few weeks ago, Huck was lucky enough to join us on a winter trip to the cabin. The ride was cramped...four adults and two large mutts snuggled up in the cab of my dad's truck. Luckily for him, Huck was just a little too big for me to shove him to the floor of the car, so Albert got that honor and Huck staked his claim on the seat. Sorry Albert, hopefully you will forgive me someday.

Whether you are a dog or a person, the cabin is a pretty sweet place to be in the winter. Those on two legs enjoyed our drinks by the fire, while eating our weight in Heggie's pizza and playing cards into the night. For our four legged friends, winter offers the greatest cabin treat of all - coming inside! Usually furry friends are relegated to the garage, but because of the cold we took pity on them and let them lounge with us in the toasty cabin. So, lucky Huck curled his red-self in front of the blazing fire, and waited for the Heggie's crumbs to fall to the floor.

Besides indoor privileges, the other great part of winter cabin trips is the ability to walk on water. I took Huck and Albert out to the middle of the lake, wondering if they really understood how strange it was not to be swimming. I am pretty sure that, as much as I love him, Huck's brain is not quite capable of abstract thought. So while I enjoyed the view of the ice on the lake and the snow in the trees, Huck just enjoyed the run.

Huck sends a shout out

Huck would like to send out a big face-licking kiss to his favorite walking buddy and newest blog reader ESJ. He promises to get into lots more trouble, so that you will always have something to read.

Huck's recent menu

the red dog has always been hungry, but lately he has taken it to a new level. here are his latest culinary indulgences:

raw flour (three helpings)
whole chicken carcass
house plant leaves
uncooked oatmeal
gravy - straight from the stove top
beef stew - yup, also straight from the stove top

i truly don't know how his intestines stay intact.
